And as we segue into 2020, the work of Pol Bury is top of mind.

Born in 1922 in Belgium, Bury was initially a painter, sculptor, and filmmaker.

Influenced by the painting of Magritte and the sculptures of Calder, he painted geometric abstract paintings and was associated with the CoBrA avant-garde group.

In 1953 he gave up painting and started making mobiles and experimenting with motors and other kinetic works.

He moved to France and became principally a sculptor.
His kinetic jewelry is much sought-after.

Signed and made of polished eighteen carat gold, made in 1970, these are marked no. 2/30.

Bury’s work is in The Museum of Modern Art, The Tate Gallery, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chelsea Museum among others.
